Rands In Repose: The Larry Test
Typically brilliant Rands post about “Being Done”. It always kills me when marketing and/or manager types ask me “Is our software done?”. I always answer yes, because done is when you (ie, the Person In Charge) says it is done. It will never be free of bugs. I’ll tell you what is wrong and you tell me if you can sell it and we’re done.
As an engineer, I particularly liked this comment about how different groups see “doneness”:
Marketing thinks you’re done the first time they see a working demo
Oh yeah - been there, done that, got the t-shirt.
